Roots Amsterdam

Last night a couple of the V Crew went around the corner to Roots, a new-ish bar (opened less than a year ago) on the corner of the Stadhouderskade and Van Woustraat (see previous post).

It’s important to us that we recommend places that we personally like. We don’t refer guests to any place that we don’t personally back with the ‘V Crew Stamp of Approval’. And we also like to support the local businesses in our neighborhood, so we dropped by Roots to check it out.

Because I have a somewhat picky diet (I’m a vegan so no meat, fish, dairy, cheese, etc), I am used to restaurants not having anything on the menu for me. Most of the time, I make do with a plate of potatoes and a salad.

So I was extremely, absolutely, over-the-top impressed when the chef of Roots, Cas Van Linden, came up with a brilliant vegan menu especially for me! He was kind enough to come out and ask about the particulars of my diet, and then took on the challenge of improvising something on the spot.

That was enough to make me love the place completely. But the service was super-friendly, the wine fantastic, and all of my colleagues meat and fish dishes were also met with rave reviews. Added on top of that was the brilliant interior and fantastic location for watching the world pass by through the big plate glass windows.

Overall, a fantastic place in our eyes. We had a brilliant time, and will definitely recommend Roots to our guests!

If you go there, tell the chef that Amanda the vegan says hi!
