The summertime Amsterdam dilemma: so much to do, so little time.
Here is a shortlist of what to do these next few days in town:
Docu by Night: July 5 through 15
Al fresco movie viewing for documentary lovers behind Pakhuis de Zwijger. Almost every night (Tuesday through Friday) from 10 pm, and entry is free! But since this is the Amsterdam summer, you might want to bring a warm coverup or a lap blanket. A list of the documentaries (selected by the International Documentary Film Festival organization) can be found here.
Guinness Book of World Records Attempt: World’s Largest Picnic: July 9
If you’ve ever wanted to say that you are in the Guinness Book of World Records, but sadly fall short of a distinguishing feature (world’s longest tongue) or remarkable ability (world’s fastest beatboxer), then now is your time to shine! And all you have to do is sit on your ass in the grass. Make it to the Amsterdamse Bos by noon on Saturday and you can help create history. And if you don’t feel like packing your own wicker basket, The Picnic Company has got what you’re looking for, you lazy git!
The Artmarket: July 10
On Sunday starting at 12 and running all day until 8 pm, the square in front of nightclub/restaurant Trouw will play host to 60 food, clothing and art vendors in a pop-up Art Market. Entry is free, and you can expect unique and interesting performances, music, trinkets, food, and fun.
Pitch Festival: July 9 & 10
If any of the following appeal to you, then this festival in Westerpark might be right up your alley: dubstep, beats, (deep)house, pop, disco, UK funky, jazz, electronica.
Well there you go. If I hear one person say that they stayed in this weekend being bored, I’m going to burst a capillary.
